Jahrhundert aus Albanien ein und sprechen noch heute einen Unterdialekt des Toskischen. Das Wort „Likënga“ bzw. Likëngë ist daher auch ein Dialektausdruck und verwandt mit dem italienischen „Luganega“ und den griechischen „Loukaniko“. Letzteres wiederum stammt von der römischen Wurst Lucanicae ab und wird seit dem 4. Jahrhundert in Griechenland als allgemeiner Ausdruck für Schweinswürste verwendet.

Likënga wird meistens in Olivenöl gebraten und zu Wildkohl (Gemeiner Rainkohl – Lapsana communis) mit Knoblauch und Olivenöl gebraten serviert.
